Aims and Scope

The Journal of Artificial Intelligence and Society (JAIS) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that explores the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) across social sciences and humanities research from global contributors. Our scope is broad, international, and multidisciplinary, covering topics including the cultural, social, ethical, political, and human dimensions of AI technologies.

JAIS welcomes interdisciplinary contributions that critically examine the impacts, opportunities, and challenges of AI in diverse areas such as:

  • Education and Learning: AI-driven pedagogies, intelligent tutoring systems, equity in digital learning, and implications for academic freedom.
  • Ethics and Philosophy: The moral status of AI, algorithmic accountability, fairness, and the philosophy of mind and cognition.
  • Sociology and Anthropology: AI in everyday life, human–machine interaction, labor transformations, and community practices.
  • Law, Politics, and Governance: AI in policy-making, digital rights, surveillance, security, and implications for democracy and global justice.
  • Arts and Culture: AI in literature, creative industries, media, art, and cultural production.
  • Linguistics and Communication: Natural language processing, discourse analysis, digital communication, and multilingual AI.
  • Health and Wellbeing: Ethical use of AI in healthcare, mental health support, bioethics, and accessibility.

We encourage a wide range of formats, including all research methodologies (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods) and all forms of scholarly contributions (empirical, conceptual, methodological, policy analyses, case studies, book reviews, and critical reflections) alongside replication studies and confirmatory work. Special issues will periodically be dedicated to urgent themes such as generative AI in social science and humanities, AI and human rights, or the role of AI in global migration.

JAIS will provide a critical, interdisciplinary platform for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to advance research and dialogue on how AI is reshaping human societies, cultures, and futures. JAIS is an open-access journal, and articles are published for free distribution on the internet. We are global, inclusive, value good scientific practice, and warmly welcome research from anywhere in the world.

Articles to be submitted for peer review should be between 7,000-10000 words in length, including all references, footnotes, and accompanying material. If illustrations are included, please allow 250 words per figure and ensure that you have copyright permissions.
