The Journal of Interdisciplinary Research in Artificial Intelligence and Society (JIRAIS) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal that explores the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) across social sciences and humanities research from global contributors. Our scope is broad, international, and multidisciplinary, covering topics including the cultural, social, ethical, political, and human dimensions of AI technologies.
JIRAIS welcomes interdisciplinary contributions that critically examine the impacts, opportunities, and challenges of AI in diverse areas such as:
- Education and Learning: AI-driven pedagogies, intelligent tutoring systems, equity in digital learning, and implications for academic freedom.
- Ethics and Philosophy: The moral status of AI, algorithmic accountability, fairness, and the philosophy of mind and cognition.
- Sociology and Anthropology: AI in everyday life, human–machine interaction, labour transformations, and community practices.
- Law, Politics, and Governance: AI in policy-making, digital rights, surveillance, security, and implications for democracy and global justice.
- Arts and Culture: AI in literature, creative industries, media, art, and cultural production.
- Language and Communication: Natural language processing, academic and research writing, discourse analysis, digital communication, and multilingual AI.
We expect that the research published in this journal will be interdisciplinary in nature, as the focus on AI in specific disciplinary contexts will presuppose a cross-pollination of theoretical perspectives and approaches in itself. We encourage a wide range of formats, including all research methodologies (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods) and all forms of scholarly contributions (empirical, conceptual, theoretical, methodological, critical reflections, and book reviews). Special issues will be dedicated periodically to urgent themes such as Generative AI and academic integrity, AI and human rights, the role of AI in global migration, Generative AI and global knowledge production.
JIRAIS will provide a critical, interdisciplinary platform for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to advance research and dialogue on how AI is reshaping human societies, cultures, and futures. JIRAIS is an open-access journal, and articles are published for free distribution on the internet. As an editorial team, we are global, inclusive, value good scientific practice, and warmly welcome research from anywhere in the world.
Articles to be submitted for peer review should be between 6,000-8,000 words in length, including all references, footnotes, and accompanying material. If illustrations are included, please allow 250 words per figure and ensure that you have copyright permissions.
