Abstract
Learning a foreign language is seen as something inevitable in globalising world in which communication means are used a lot in parallel with technological developments. Turkish is also taught widely as a foreign language at Turkology platforms, Yunus Emre Institutes and TOMER centres. Teaching grammar and vocabulary is not found enough for a healthy communication between people from different cultures. In order for people to understand the message as it should be by thinking in the same way as people in this society do, cultural elements should be included in foreign language teaching, too. In this way, language accompanied by cultural elements can be taught in a more effective way. Basic sentence patterns reflecting Turkish culture and wealthiness of Turkish are one of the cultural elements used in communication a lot and making people relationships easier. Formulaic expressions which should be learned in every language for an effective communication reflects viewpoints of societies from sociocultural aspect. In this study, pantomime, film and painting which are among the methods that can be used in teaching Turkish as a foreign language were discussed and various activities were suggested based on that. The study also includes activities that can be used during teaching period such as station, diagnostic tree, conceptual caricature, drama, observation, filling in the blanks and structured grid. Target group, rationale of the activities, general structure of the activities and process and evaluation are mentioned in these activities. These activities will contribute to both Turkish language development of the students learning Turkish as a foreign language and cultural transmission.
